My Zen Mind
Flow with whatever is happening and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate. -Chuang Tzu
Welcome, I’m Nikki…would you like some chai tea?
So you want to know a little more about me huh? Well, I’m currently in my 30′s, born in Guyana, South America but raised in the USA since age 5. Ethnically I’m Afro Caribbean/American with some Portuguese ancestors which probably explains the wild hair. At the time of typing this mini bio I’m living in NYC but dreaming of living in some international location. I love to travel and hope one day to get a dream job as a tour guide or something that allows me to run around the world on a whim…I can dream right?
Sometimes I’m in hermit mode requiring vast amounts of personal space to think and struggle thru to my next level. Usually personality wise I’m outgoing since I like to laugh, learn new things and meet total strangers for the excitement factor (to the horror of my family).
A few years back I became silent in my life and ended up losing myself and wandering off the path. I wandered about for a long time becoming unhappy and cluttered in mind, body and spirit.
I want to start making my way back to the path I’ve been seeing glimpses of through the forest of my stressful and unproductive life.
This blog is one of my steps back to being a truer self. As things happen on a daily basis I hope to blog immediate and freely. I need to get everything out and free the clutter within me to keep flowing. So read with caution as your bound to learn more then you want or need to know.
I like all types of food ( thai, mexican, indian, etc), all types of music ( techno, reggea, jazz, etc) all type of movies except horror, all type of good theater, and most outdoor activities like hiking. That’s all I can think of for now…anything else you want to know just drop me an email.
WHY THE NAME MOM ZEN
whaaaa….isn’t it obvious? no? ok lemme work on this section
BEING A BUDDHIST BUT NOT BEING ASIAN
You’re not Asian, how can you be buddhist? I get this question all the time. At first I use to get upset…I mean when was race a criteria for belonging to an religion? Now I’m amused so I just give people limited enough to ask this question the buddha smile. Then depending on the other person’s potential for mentally growth I’ll either explain or just ignore them and continue whatever I was doing.
I feel I have to make an important point here…First Buddha was not Chinese, Japanese, Thai or any of the “asian” images people first think of when they hear “I’m buddhist”. The original Buddha was Indian…that’s right people Indian…take deep breaths, I know some of you are reading this for the first time..LOL
Second important point, being a buddha is not based on color, status or anything else really…anyone with the desire to live a life free of suffering can be a buddha. Buddhism is like Christianity in that anyone ( race, class, or gender) can follow the path towards something greater then self.
Third important point, beside asian and white people many other races have buddhist followers. In different buddhist areas in the world are black buddhist, hispanic buddhist, native american buddhist and any other racial mixtures you can think of blazing a path towards enlightenment.
WHY I DON’T ALWAYS WRITE LIKE A BUDDHIST
ah, this is an interesting point. Simple answer.. There’re many facets on a gemstone to make it shine. Was that to Zen for you? ok i’ll explain more
First a blog reflects anything the author wants to write about so generally it’s not limited. Some people write about one thing, some about many, some about nothing at all…the individual need to share is the driving force. For me this blog is about sharing…I share my thoughts, life adventures, and sometimes my spiritual journey. Being a buddhist doesn’t mean I talk about Buddha and what he said, wrote and did all the time. Being female doesn’t mean I have to talk about love and relationships all the time. Being black doesn’t mean I have to talk about racial injustice and the plight of my people all the time. Many parts make up my whole and these I share so readers can get a fuller sense of me.
