So once again I was clearing out my inbox but for a different account…note to self – you might wanna downsize in the alter account areas…and I checked out AfroerotiK blog. I love her for her openess and sexuality. In part the blog said..
Taken from http://afroerotik.blogspot.com/2008/12/do-openly-bisexual-black-men-really.html
I’m interested in openly bisexual Black men for many reasons, primarily because I’m attracted to men who have let go of absurd notions of gender and sexuality. I’m interested in bisexual men who can acknowledge that their manhood and masculinity aren’t defined by how they experience pleasure. I’m only attracted to men who can distance themselves from the misogynist, patriarchal, sexist, oppressive notions of what it is to be man and how society tells men to relate to women. Men who have redefined their notions of top and bottom and see themselves as sexual beings without labels arouse me
After reading this I was reminded of a show I recently saw also dealing with gender and sexuality and how it’s views in different cultures. I saw it on
National Geographic “Taboo: The Third Sex”
http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/taboo/3610/Overview/?source=4003
or watch it on YouTube
And now my commentary. This is a many layer subject and oddly enough I’ve dealt with this issue…on many layers. I’ve been with a man who hide his so called bi-sexuality even after I confronted him about. I’ve had emotional lesbian type of connections with lesbians and just regular women. I’ve never had a physical lesbian relationship…I’m not lesbian after all.
I think as sexual beings we can make a connection with somone based on something beyond the corporeal existence…no matter the other gender. I know I have many times in my life. When you strip away labels of men, women and other to just leave the essence of “being” then things blend better and you can see how things interconnect and can relate on different levels. While I’m trying to using these examples to explain my board understanding on gender and sexuality this does not mean I promote being a lesbian or homosexual. This might seem a contradiction for some folks.
Well, I feel some people choose to be lesbian/ homosexual verses living in a cultural that includes/understands/supports the additional genders for spiritual reasons. These are two different subject all together.
